This temple complex dates back to the first century BC. Major attractions are spread over 5 caves, which contain statues and paintings, related related to Lord Buddha and his life.
This cave monastery is the largest and best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka.
In 1991, this site was added to the Unesco world heritage list.
