These barefooted dancers on the spectacular Esala Day Perahera in Kandy, central Sri Lanka are known as “Polmal Nettuwo” or coconut flower dancers. Coconut flowers are carried out of gratitude to the coconut tree which provides many benefits to the people such as shade, beauty of form, wood and, of course, coconuts.
