As a mix technology contribution from the Portuguese, Dutch and British, the Mannar Fort has defended the ocean frontier for centuries for the European powers in Asia. It has also witnessed the devastating contemporary divisions and conflicts between Tamil and Singhalese people in Sri Lanka. The balance between the built heritage, water landscape, infrastructure, governance and various stakeholders would be the most challenging and yet crucial mission for the preservation of the fort. © Queenie Lin.
