Ambassador Federico Salas Presents Letters of Credence to the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka

Ambassador Federico Salas Lotfe presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Ranil Wickremesinghe, President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, at a ceremony held on Friday, November 11th, at the Presidential Secretariat in Colombo.

During his work visit to Sri Lanka, Amb. Salas also met Mr. Dinesh Gunawardena, Prime Minister; Mr. Ali Saby, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Mr. Nalin Fernando, Minister of Trade, Commerce and Food Security.

Furthermore, Amb. Salas held meetings with Sri Lankan business leaders to help foster trade between both nations, including Vish Govindasamy, Chairman of the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce. Regarding education, Amb. Salas met Senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of University Grants Commission. Both committed to enhance student and academic exchanges, expand the Mexican cultural footprint in Sri Lanka, and explore joint scientific research opportunities.

The Presentation of Letters of Credence of Amb. Salas, along with all related work meetings, was part of a broader effort to strengthen ties between Mexico and Sri Lanka. In challenging times, both nations look to the future through education, people-to-people contacts, science, and trade. Moreover, these interactions are aligned to the shared pursuit of Mexico and Sri Lanka for a renewed political dialogue and creation of economic opportunities for the benefit of both peoples.

On the occasion of his presentation of Credentials to the President of Sri Lanka on November 11, Federico Salas, Ambassador designate of Mexico shared his goal to give “a renewed impetus to the bilateral  relationship between Mexico and Sri Lanka by enhancing the levels of trade exchanges that exist and exploring new opportunities for commerce; promoting people-to-people exchanges in areas such as academic cooperation as well as tourism; promoting Mexican culture in Sri Lanka with exhibits, performing arts and culinary festivals; intensifying high level contacts towards a more robust political dialogue; and expanding our cooperation in multilateral fora.”
