Earnings from tourism top $ 1 b mark

Earnings from the tourism sector have crossed the $ 1 billion mark by October.

As per data released by the Central Bank, January to October earnings from tourism amounted to $ 1.02 billion reflecting a 546% increase from the corresponding period of last year impacted by COVID-19.

 At the end of September 2022, the figure was $946.4 million.

The crossing of $ 1 billion mark follows October earnings amounting to $ 75.6 million up from $ 53.6 million in September this year. In October last year earnings amounted to $ 59.3 million.

In Rupee terms, the first 10 months of 2022 earnings were Rs. 293 billion.

The higher earning is on the back of over half a million tourist arrivals in the first 10 months of 2022 in comparison to 61,000 last year.
