One of the awesome Class M6 locomotives arrives at Ella passing the station section ground controller on the mountain line.in Sri Lanka.
These stunning diesel locomotives were built by Thyssen-Henschel in West Germany in 1979 under license from EMD of USA.. Loco number 786 is one of a batch of 16 locomotives which are powered byEMD 645 V12 power units.
Two locomotives were destroyed by terrorist activity during the Tamil war. During my visit the remaining 14 were all operational and available for service.
