Waiting for Enlightenment at Kelaniya, Cololmbo, Srilanka

Ladies in austere white sat on the sandy courtyards of the Kelaniya Temple Complex on makeshift rugs and read the holy text and scripts of Buddhism while they sat and waited for enlightenment.

Buddhism is alive and well in Srilanka and thank God for that. While India, the land where Buddhism originated and flourished does not have any significant followers thanks to the internecine religious struggle with Hinduism whch saw to it that by means fair and foul the religion was systematically pushed out of the Indian sub continent.

Buddhism spread across Asia while its influence dwindled in India. Buddhism is a rational and a thinking man’s religion and does not harken to Gods but to following principles.

This is the Kelaniya complex in Colombo.
