Habit: Herb
Native to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka
Flowering: August to December
Etymology:
The generic name Celosia is derived from the Ancient Greek word ‘kelos’, meaning “burning”. It refers to the flame-like flower heads. The other version is ‘Keleos’ meaning blood spots, referring to the red colour of flowers. But all species do not have red flowers, some have white and pink, some have golden yellow.

The Silver Spiked Cockscomb is an erect annual herb. It attracts lot of butterflies. Its tender shoots are cooked and eaten.
