One of the awesome M5 Class of locomotives built by Hitachi in Japan. The M5b variants were re engined with 12 Cyl Paxman Valenta RP200L engines, yeah HST engines but rated to 1150hp.
When you stand next to them they sound very agricultural but when they pull away you can hear the family heritage in the classic Valenta way.
772 is working the 1740 Kandy to Polgahawela. She will be passing through some stunning countryside and stopping at every station. There will be no end of signal boxes and semaphores en route.
Note the iron work eminating from Kandy signal box for controling the point work in Kandy yards.
