PTE UKVI Launched in Sri Lanka

The UK Secure English Language Test (SELT) to study, work or migrate to UK, is now available in Sri Lanka.

Pearson Test of English UKVI was launched in Sri Lanka last week with Her Excellency Sarah Hulton – British High Commissioner gracing the occasion as the chief guest. In her address H.E Sarah Hulton congratulated Pearson for launching PTE UK SELT. She mentioned that UK has been a popular destination for a large number of Sri Lankan students and thanked Pearson for introducing such a modern AI-based test to help students who wish to study and work in the UK.

People looking to work or live or study in the UK can now start to book PTE tests in approved testing centres in Sri Lanka to help them prepare for this move. The tests will be delivered through the Pearson VUE test centre network. All operating test centres will continue to follow guidance and notifications from public health officials for preventing the spread of COVID-19, including social distancing, to support the safety of test-takers and staff.

This news comes at a time when many test takers are unable to visit a test centre due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Freya Thomas Monk, Pearson Senior Vice President of English Assessment, said: “I am pleased that we can now offer PTE in Sri Lanka for UKVI purposes. She added that students would be pleased to take the PTE Academic Test for the completely digital nature of the test, speed of receiving the test scores back and the learning services that Pearson offers to the candidates to prepare for the test. “We advise test takers to check all relevant travel restrictions and health & safety requirements before they do so”, she added.

Joe Lam, Managing Director for China and South Asia added: “We are delighted to start providing Secure English Language Tests that are fully digital tests and employs AI technology to offer an impartial and highly accurate test of the English language proficiency of test takers around the world.” He added that over One Thousand academic institutions around the world recognize PTE Academic, and the numbers keep growing.

One of the highlights of the launch was the sharing of their own experience of PTE Academic Test by two past test takers, Tharushi Fernando and Loshitha Manoharan. While Tharushi is awaiting to go to Australia to pursue her Bachelor’s in Education to become a qualified and trained teacher, Loshitha is already in Perth, Australia, currently pursuing her studies.  “When I decided to pursue my higher studies and to take up a teaching career in Australia, I opted to do PTE Academic.  

This is after reviewing comments and recommendations from past test takers and as advised by the student visa consultant. I actually found the test to be test-taker friendly”, said Tharushi Fernando. 

Meanwhile, Loshitha Manoharan, who is currently studying for her Bachelor’s in Electronics Engineering in Perth emphasized on the recognition of PTE Academic for studies and migration. She added, “You also get practice tests which can be done from home and the results are available within minutes. Even the actual test can be booked on-demand, so there is no long waiting”.

Pearson’s SELT tests are focused on immigration requirements and the details are as follows:

• PTE Academic (UKVI) – a four skills language test accepted for work and study visas. It tests speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
• PTE Home – a two skills language test accepted for family, settlement, citizenship applications as well as Sportsperson and Representative of an Overseas Business applications. It tests speaking and listening skills.
