Fire and Ice Pizzeria | Restaurant Review

Looking for an authentic Italian experience?

Looking for an authentic Italian experience in the heart of Colombo? Fire and Ice Pizzeria is the place to go. Their popularity is evident with them opening branches in both Kathmandu and Kolkata. This little oasis of Italian cuisine is sure to thrill your taste buds!

Starters

Antipasto Misto Veg – LKR 1,800

The dish is made up of mozzarella, tomato bruschetta, pickled carrots, green beans, marinated artichokes, green olives, and pesto sauce served with freshly baked focaccia bread. I’m not someone who’s too fond of vegetables but I greatly enjoyed the marinated artichokes and pickled carrots. The fresh focaccia bread was light and airy and perfectly prepared; it went excellently with the pesto and mozzarella cheese. The tomato bruschetta, however, wasn’t much to my liking. I must say the presentation was excellent and this dish gets your appetite going.

Tonno e Cipolle – LKR 1,100

This is essentially the Italian counterpart of a tuna salad consisting of tuna, onion, boiled potato, tomato, olives, and capers tossed in olive oil. This dish wasn’t particularly to my liking as I’m not the biggest tuna fan; however, if you’re someone who enjoys a lot of tuna, you’re sure to love this dish!

Mains

Spaghetti Pomodoro – LKR 1,300

A Pomodoro is a quintessential Italian dish; translating directly to tomato. It’s made up of spaghetti and tomato sauce. Although quite simple, this was one of my favourite dishes of the day. After sprinkling a little parmesan on top, I was tempted to devour the whole thing. The tomato wasn’t overpowering; it was the perfect texture and complemented the spaghetti and parmesan very well.

Pizza Adelina – LKR 1,900

As I said before, vegetables aren’t exactly my favourite food, so I wasn’t exactly psyched at the idea of a vegetarian pizza but oh boy was I in for a pleasant surprise. This was probably my favourite pizza, not just from what we tried at Fire and Ice but of all time! It consists of tomato sauce, mozzarella, grilled zucchini, eggplant, red and yellow peppers, onions, garlic, and black olives. The zucchini was perfectly grilled and had a smokey flavour that heightened the whole dish in my opinion. I can safely say that I thoroughly enjoyed this pizza.

La Gal Oya – LKR 2,400

This uniquely named pizza piqued our interest so we decided to order it! The dish consists of tomato sauce, mozzarella, green olives, rocket, and imported Parma ham. Our expectations were high considering how good the last pizza was and we were not disappointed. The beautiful presentation wasn’t just for show, the ham and cheese were a spectacular combo and left your taste buds craving more.

Desserts

Apple Pie with Ice Cream – LKR 700

This apple pie was simply one of the best I’ve ever had. The flaky crust and tart cinnamon-flavoured apples were great on their own but the sweet ice cream was the cherry on top! We had to order an extra slice because it was so good.

Tiramisu – LKR 900

This tiramisu wasn’t an exception when it came to taste or presentation compared to the other killer dishes Fire and Ice Pizzeria served us. Both the taste and aroma of coffee made your mouth water and the sweet cream in between the coffee-soaked biscuits was excellent! Although it probably wasn’t the most traditional of tiramisus, it had an excellent flavour profile.

Drinks

Lemon Iced Tea – LKR 500

This iced tea was the perfect refresher. I’m personally not the biggest fan of iced tea and would have preferred it to be slightly sweeter, however, my colleague was a huge fan and slurped down the whole drink.

Fire and Ice Delight – LKR 700

Now, this was more to my liking! The sweet strawberry flavour was just right and an excellent complement to the mains we gobbled down.

Ambience

Fire and Ice Pizzeria transports you to a little Italian locale. The vintage artwork on the walls gives the whole place a Mama Mia vibe (and yes I know it’s set in Greece). I was particularly fond of the outside seating area; the lighting and candlelit tables were very aesthetically pleasing. It seems like it would be the perfect spot to take your significant other on a date.
