Nestlé accelerates homegrown innovation drive; close to 200 University students to submit ideas for green initiatives and nutritious products with local ingredients

Accelerating its focus on homegrown innovation, Nestlé has joined hands with four universities – University of Kelaniya, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, University of Colombo and University of Moratuwa – to launch an innovation challenge for students. Close to 200 university students will submit their ideas for nutritious products that use local ingredients, and initiatives that can enhance the company’s environmental sustainability.

“Innovation has always been at the heart of our company. At a time where we’re seeing significant shifts in consumer behaviour, we want to leverage and support local innovation and use it to shape our offerings to our consumers. Ensuring sustainability and nutrition in our products are our key priorities – we want to offer consumers products that are not just good for them but good for the planet. We can’t wait to see what our young Sri Lankan talent bring!” said Fabrice Cavallin, Nestlé’s Managing Director.

Through this challenge, the company aims to not only refresh its innovation process and local insight but to also support and encourage innovative thinking among youth. All participants will receive guidance on their innovation project and deepen their knowledge on how to conceptualise a robust idea.
