Succeeding through their partnership with MasterCard, the international world sponsor for Rugby World Cup 2023, LOLC Finance PLC, the largest Non-Banking Financial Institute (NBFI) of the country, was privileged to host the ‘WEBB ELLIS RUGBY WORLD CUP TROPHY-2023’ in Sri Lanka.
LOLC Finance had executed a momentous event on the 21st of February, at the Excel World Entertainment Park to parade the Rugby Cup 2023, exclusively to schoolchildren, and LOLC patrons.
LOLC Finance, as an organization in the forefront of humanitarian efforts has come forward to provide a helping hand for the advancement of Schools Rugby, while creating a live platform for the students to witness the Ellis Trophy. In the course of the event, LOLC Finance handed over a contribution worth
Rs. 100,000/- each, to 37-selected schools island wide mostly from the rural parts of the island. This contribution was made virtuously for the development of school sports and recreation centres, in order to encourage and to groom the younger generations of the country to grow and to vitalize their interest towards sports.
The event also curated few technical sessions conducted by the leading Rugby couches in the country, together with a few resource personnel to inspire and to educate the students participated. Adding some vibrancy to the event, LOLC Finance had arranged amusement events, game zones and photo booths for the entertainment of the students. Extending the support, LOLC also provided foodstuff and transportation facilities to all the participants from the schools.

The 2023 Rugby World Cup will be the tenth men’s Rugby World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for rugby union national teams. It is scheduled to take place in France from 8th September to 28th October 2023 in nine venues across the country. The tournament will take place in the bicentenary year of the “invention” of the sport by William Webb Ellis.
