“I appeal to the large companies in Sri Lanka who have not yet listed, please come forward and list your companies in the Colombo Stock Exchange. We need to increase the depth and breadth of the market. So, your participation will ensure that. To the SME’s and startups, it is your turn as well. There is huge potential to raise the much-needed capital in the capital market and to the investors, both local and foreign come and invest, the valuations are great,” Dayaratne PC said whilst addressing the special market opening ceremony which was organized today to mark the Digitalization of the Sri Lankan Stock Market.
Speaking further he also expressed the following:
“The SEC believes in ensuring, that we have in place, a robust regulatory regime that can create confidence in the Stock Market and safeguard the interest of the investors. At the same time, we are aware that it is our bounded duty to ensure that we facilitate the development of the market and as such we are determined to create a balance between regulation and development of the market. We assure you Prime Minister that we will play a proactive role in the development of the stock market and partner all stakeholders in taking our market to the next level.”
“Whilst digitalizing creates that paradigm shift towards the development of the Market, that by itself is not adequate and there is much more to be done. As his Excellency, the President has repeatedly said, we need to think out of the box. A strong government, the political will, and prudent economic policies are a must if the capital market to prosper. We can boast that we have achieved all of that. I’m happy to say that the government has fired the first salvo,” he stated.
