The locked doors of the abandoned Pagoda Tea Rooms on Sir Baron Jayatilaka Avenue, in the Colombo Fort, February 2024. The 140-year-old restaurant features heavily in the 1982 music video of Duran Duran’s hit ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’. The song reached No 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1983, driving Duran Duran to international stardom, and the music video won the first Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video in 1984, probably doing more to sell Sri Lanka as a tourist destination than any promotional film by the country’s Tourist Board.
