Totally Hooked | Restaurant Review

From the Ocean to Your Plate!

Totally Hooked has been the talk of the town to get your seafood cravings satisfied for a while now.

Dishing out divine American-Singaporean seafood delicacies with a team led by Head Chef Sanuka, this restaurant stands out from other seafood joints thanks to its mouthwatering seafood boils – a rare find in Colombo. Thanks to all the buzz around their eye-catching treats, we couldn’t wait to check this one out!

Read on as we dive into a sea of fresh catch!

Appetisers

Prawn Cocktail – LKR 1,850 (4/5)

Salads not your thing? Give this fresh, crunchy and nutritious salad bowl a try! It consists of 6 jumbo prawns, red cabbage, lettuce, corn and other veggies. The only thing it was missing – in my personal perspective – was a dressing that would’ve tied it all together. Yet, it still made up a pretty great dish on its own.

Tip: Try having it with their in-house cajun sauce!

Yams with Dried Shrimps – LKR 790 (5/5)

As someone who enjoys spicy food, this dish was my personal favourite. Made with pan-fried sweet potato fries, shrimp, kochchi and lime leaf, it was incredibly flavourful and left us wanting more.

Mains

Tortilla Wrap with Shrimp – LKR 1,850 (3.5/5)

This dish is mainly made up of prawns, red cabbage and gherkins blanketed in a soft and tender tortilla. It tasted satisfactory and was certainly enhanced by the cajun sauce when eaten with the fries that go wonderfully with this wrap.

Mediterranean Prawns – LKR 2,250 (4/5)

The dish came with a steaming bowl of rice topped with prawns, greens and chips with lemon butter sauce drizzled atop. It was creamy and absolutely delicious! With parsley adding lovely earthy flavour, and the chips giving it a pleasant crunch, this mild yet intriguing dish will leave anyone satisfied.

Caribbean Catch – LKR 4,300 (5/5)

You might’ve caught a glimpse of dishes similar to this one trending on social media.

Served in a boil bag, it comes with a whole fried and grilled mullet fish covered in flavoursome gravy made of BBQ sauce with a distinct sweet-chilli flavour. It includes cooked corn and two mantou buns ( steamed and fried buns) on the side, which compliments the entire dish well. This was definitely a hit for me as it was flawlessly cooked to perfection!

Desserts

Lychee Yogurt Pudding – LKR 750 (4/5)

Beautiful layers of homemade yoghurt and moist cake with bits of lychee were used to create this bonne bouche. It was super refreshing to say the least!

Nutty Chocolate Crunch Pudding – LKR 630 (4.5/5)

My adoration for chocolate was fulfilled with this sweet delicacy! It had a layer of silky chocolate mousse over a moist layer of cake at the bottom mixed with nuts for an added crunch.

Drinks

Pineapple Juice – LKR 1,150 (5/5)

Being served the juice in a real hollowed out pineapple made it a really adorable experience in and of itself! The cold-pressed juice was healthy and delicious without any added preservatives.

Wrigleys Mint Mojito – LKR 1,150 (5/5)

This drink is your saviour on a hot and bright day! This classic cold beverage made using Sprite, mint leaves, Monin syrup, and lime was absolutely refreshing.

Ambience

The seating is set up to accommodate a reasonable number of people despite the venue’s overall compact design. The décor was entirely inspired by the sea including a boat-shaped cashier counter, white tiles with prints of sea creatures and other decorations like anchors, helms and portholes to enliven the space. You can tell it was a seafood restaurant just by looking at it!

Although most dishes are priced on the higher end of the spectrum, Totally Hooked is an experience you should definitely try out at least once – because chances are, it’ll have you totally hooked by the end of it!
