The gastronomic arena in Sri Lanka has been making strides in terms of the various types of cuisines being introduced to the island. This is especially true for the capital city, and one type of cuisine that has truly made its way around Colombo is Korean cuisine!

  1. Kang’s Kitchen

This one needs no introduction as it’s possibly the best known Korean eatery in Colombo. While their Jajangmeon (black noodles) and Tteokbokki dishes are super popular among their loyal patrons, you really can’t go wrong with any of the dishes served at Kang’s Kitchen.

  1. The Bibim

This restaurant is named after the popular Korean dish Bibimbap, which is essentially a bowl of rice topped with a variety of vegetables, meat and a fried egg. It is no surprise that it is one of the best-selling dishes at The Bibim, with an assortment of meats to choose from.

Another well-established Korean eatery conveniently located down Thimbirigasyaya Road is Arirang 5th. What stood out to us the most about Arirang’s menu were their set menu options that come in portions for 2, 3 or 4 persons, offering much convenience.

  1. Kim’s Family Korean Restaurant

As one may assume from the name of the restaurant, this particular Korean eatery has a very homely and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring that customers feel comfortable while enjoying some delectable Japchae or Bibimbap, which are only two of their popular dishes in their extensive menu.

While Seoul Restaurant does serve up a super Korean feast, we couldn’t help but notice that they have taken that extra step to cater to the Lankan palate by offering a variety of fried, devilled and hot butter dishes. They also tend to sell imported Korean items from time to time so stay tuned to their socials.

Now for a crowd favourite, the Korean Barbecue, or KBQ. The chicken at the Korean Barbecue is to die for! It is incredibly flavourful and just the right amount of spice – perfect for us Lankans who love a little spice in everything. It is guaranteed to satisfy your chicken cravings.

Robata Grill located at Movenpick Hotel is known for their amazing selection of 7 eclectic Asian cuisines. I’ve personally been to Robata a couple times, and in terms of their Korean fare, having tried their Bulgogi, I can say you won’t be disappointed.

  1. Hancook Kitchen
