Isle Amore | Restaurant Review

“An island twist to the Italian classics!”

Isle Amore, a fresh addition to Colombo’s culinary scene, tantalises taste buds with a fusion of Italian classics and Sri Lankan flavours, spices, and ingredients. While remaining true to the authentic essence of Italian cuisine, Isle Amore fearlessly ventures into culinary experimentation, crafting innovative dishes tailored to the Sri Lankan palate. A prime example is their Island Pizza selection, adorned with delectable toppings like fiery nai miris sausages, flavorful chutney chicken, and zesty chili jaggery beef.

Isle Amore shares its space with the recently launched Brown Sugar Cafe and Dessert Bar, both owned and run by the same team. This delightful connection means that when you savour the flavours of Isle Amore, you’re also treated to the luscious beverage and desserts from Brown Sugar, making your dining experience an all-round culinary journey!

APPETISERS

Mozzarella Sticks with Marinara Sauce — LKR 1,950 (5/5)

These are chunky, crumb-fried mozzarella sticks with a homemade marinara sauce. We especially loved the sauce, which was super flavourful and rich. Be sure to ask the staff to heat/reheat the moz sticks so you can really enjoy the cheese pull.

Sriracha Chicken Wings — LKR 1,850 (4.5/5)

Call us Oliver Twist because we want more! These sriracha-covered chicken wings were not too spicy, extremely flavourful, and a little bit messy, but in the best way possible. A single portion includes six chicken wings slathered in a delicious sriracha sauce that has spicy notes from chillies or chilli peppers, a slight acidity from vinegar, and a mild sweetness from sugar, and are topped with finely sliced red chilies and spring onions. These wings hit the spot, and left us wanting more!

MAINS

Half and Half Pizza — Chutney Chicken: LKR 2,900 (4/5) | Chili Jaggery Beef: LKR 3,150 (3/5)

Who wouldn’t order THIS if they saw THIS on a menu? Clearly, not us. Part of the Island Pizza selection, these pizzas are what make Isle Amore stand out in terms of fusion cooking.

The Chutney Chicken Pizza came with chicken, coriander and homemade mango chutney sauce, while the Chili Jaggery Beef Pizza had spicy beef and spring onions with homemade chili jaggery sauce.

The Chutney Chicken had an interesting sweet flavour that went well with the tender pieces of chicken. The Chili Jaggery beef was also interesting in its flavour combination, but we would have preferred it if it was a little more spicy.  The pizzas are quite large, with eight slices, and can easily be shared among two or three people.

Spaghetti Carbonara — LKR 2,200 (5/5)

This dish is one of Isle Amore’s signature delights, and it happened to be our absolute favourite! This classic carbonara has a delicious egg, cheese and cream sauce that is served with tender chicken pieces and spaghetti. There’s really nothing else to say about this dish except that if you’re hunting down a great plate of carbonara, this would be it.

Beef Bolognese with Fettuccine — LKR 2,400 (4/5)

The bolognese is a best-seller at Isle Amore, which meant that we had to try it out! This savoury delight features either minced beef or chicken bathed in a sumptuous tomato sauce infused with garlic and aromatic herbs. Apart from having a tad too much salt, we enjoyed this hearty dish. And hey, imagine this paired with a nice glass of wine (did I mention they’re BYOB?).

DESSERTS

Classic Chocolate Cake — LKR 1,250 (5/5)

We were absolutely stuffed by this time, but slowly managed to finish an entire slice of the classic chocolate cake — because it is that good! We loved the rich, chocolatey flavours and smooth texture of this cake which by the look of it seemed too sweet, but it was just right. The owner suggested trying the cake after giving it a little reheat. This way, the ganache got all melty, and made it taste *chefs kiss*! Although a bit pricey, a slice can easily be shared between two people.

Nutella Crunch Donut — LKR 450 (5/5)

I love a good donut. This donut came slathered in a delicious Nutella buttercream, topped with chopped cashews. At the time, being in a food coma from trying so many delicious dishes, we were too full to finish this donut. In hindsight, I fully regret it.

DRINKS

Cucumber Gimlet — LKR 700 (5/5)

This heavenly and refreshing drink contains sliced cucumber, lime juice and soda. Here’s a friendly tip; the owner suggested pairing this mocktail with gin. I mean, at this point I’m heading back to Isle Amore for more than one reason!

Hawaiian Milkshake — LKR 900 (5/5)

This milkshake is a coconut lover’s dream! This milkshake has vanilla ice cream, coconut cookies, coconut milk and a dollop of whipped cream, all adding up to the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess.

AMBIENCE

We fell in love with how Isle Amore looks, both inside and out. Inside, there’s a beautiful loveseat, murals and impeccable lighting, and outside, there are these lovely frangipani trees.

If you want a fun evening with your pals, the outdoor area is perfect, especially with one of Isle Amore’s heavenly mocktails or milkshakes. But if you’re planning a special date, the cosy indoor setting is just right. Oh, and don’t forget to snap some pics on that adorable loveseat!

The folks who run Isle Amore are friendly and helpful so don’t hesitate to ask for anything you need.
