EQUAL GROUND brings the 18th edition of Colombo PRIDE on the theme ‘Resilient and Unsilenced’

EQUAL GROUND will hold the 18th edition of Colombo PRIDE from 18th June 2022 to the 26th June 2022, centred on the theme ‘Resilient and Unsilenced’.

Colombo PRIDE will kick off with the Rainbow Bus Ride on Saturday (18th), followed by the Abhimani Queer Film Festival (19th – 21st), the Rainbow Music and Dance Festival (23rd) and the Rainbow Kite Festival (26th).

As part of the celebrations, EQUAL GROUND is also hosting three virtual competitions over the month of June: the Short Film Competition, the Original Song Composition Competition, and the Cartoon/Comic Strip Competition.

First held in 2005, Colombo PRIDE has always been about encouraging and inspiring the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTIQ) community to come out and be proud, while celebrating diverse identities and voices.

Each year a diverse range of events are held to encourage the LGBTIQ community to come out and be proud. It is also an educational and sensitising exercise where the message of diversity is addressed in a holistic way paving for better understanding and acceptance of the Queer community by the larger Sri Lankan citizenship.

Over the years, PRIDE has grown from strength to strength, despite the numerous challenges. As always, celebrating the diversity, the creativity, and the talents of the LGBTIQ community is at the forefront of PRIDE celebrations.

As always, EQUAL GROUND has partnered with many organisations and corporates, as well as our allies, to bring forward a vibrant PRIDE celebration to Sri Lanka.
