Cafe Felicita | Restaurant Review

“The only cafe you should be hanging out at starting NOW!”

Located on the quaint little street of Flower Road at the heart of Colombo, Cafe Felicita is the newest addition to the list of Instagrammable cafes in the city.

Open from 7 am till 8:30 pm (with plans to extend their open hours to 11 pm), Cafe Felicita serves everything from all-day breakfast to burgers, paninis to kottu, wraps to hotdogs and more! And the best part is that all these delicious dishes on their extensive menu aren’t as expensive as you might think. You could easily satisfy all your cravings for just LKR 2,000 and in the heart of Colombo… that’s definitely saying something!

Appertisers

Baked Pumpkin Bowl — LKR 1,000 (4/5)

This really elevated the concept of “enjoying a salad” to a whole new level. While it’s not yet on the menu, make sure to ask for it because we promise you won’t regret it. The pumpkin was cooked until soft, and each tender bite brought a burst of flavour. The addition of golden and crispy croutons provided some much-needed salty contrast, and of course, the greens provided a refreshing addition of extra flavour to the dish. Now while this dish uses nothing out of the extraordinary, it is a true gem, and showcases the versatility that can be achieved with just a few humble ingredients.

NOTE: You can have yours served with feta cheese at an added cost of just LKR 500.

Mains

Crispy Chicken Burger — LKR 1,690 (4/5)

Now this Crispy Chicken Burger made me want to do a happy dance! The fries — oh my sweet potato fries — were perfectly crunchy and cooked till golden. And the burger itself was a masterpiece; juicy chicken, topped with all the fixings you’d expect, nestled between two soft buns. It had just the right balance of zest and piquancy, making every bite a mouthwatering delight. All in all, this burger is a true crispy and flavorful champion!

NOTE: You can opt for grilled chicken instead of the crispy chicken if that’s more your thing.

Cheesy Pol Sambol Panini — LKR 950 (5/5)

This cheesy pol sambol panini was definitely a game-changer. The pol sambol brought a sweet and spicy kick, with the coconut adding a welcome sweetness. The cherry on top was the buttery goodness of the toasted panini and melted cheese which complemented the sambol exactly how it should. I’ll admit, it was a tad on the oily side, but we couldn’t complain when it was this good.

Couscous with Kebab — LKR 1,750 (3/5)

The couscous was like a fluffy cloud, so light and airy that it practically floated in my mouth, with a wee bit of a spicy jab with the chilli. The sneaky raisins brought a tangy sweetness that added another layer of flavour. And the chicken kebabs? They held their own, well-seasoned and juicy, and when paired with that hummus — we really had nothing to complain about. Creamy, buttery smooth, and oh-so-dippable, we’d be lying if we said that we didn’t just have the hummus by itself.

Seattle Hot Dog — LKR 1,250 (5/5)

The bun was fresh and fluffy — a cloud of carb heaven. But the real star was the mustard-y cheese sauce — spicy and tangy with an umami punch, it hit all the right notes. The hotdog itself was tender, flavorful and downright satisfying. But that’s not all, the jalapeños brought a fiery spike, taking this hot dog to the next level — another must-try!

Desserts

Chocolate Brownie — LKR 780 (4/5)

Chocolate and vanilla — a match you can never go wrong with! The brownie was pure fudgy galore. And when paired with the creamy vanilla ice cream, it was the perfect fit for our sweet tooth.

Strawberry Cheesecake — LKR 1,000 (4/5)

Now how could you go wrong with cheesecake? Topped with fresh strawberry covered in a sugary syrup, this cheesecake was all we could have asked for! The velvety cheesecake with the buttery base was a slice of heaven on its own. We did think that the portion size could have been a bit bigger given the price, but all in all… good stuff!

Churros — LKR 750 (5/5)

At just LKR 750, these churros had no right to be THIS GOOD. The churros were soft and chewy, and the consistency was perfectly complemented by a balance of flavouring — with just the right amount of sweetness, and a surprising hint of saltiness that added depth to each bite. But boy oh boy, the star of the show had to be that chocolate sauce. Rich and velvety, bursting with a spark of taste, its thick and luscious texture paired amazingly well with the churros. Next time you’re in search of a sweet snack to hit all the right spots, these churros are a must-try!

Drinks

Hot Chocolate — LKR 1,350 (4/5)

This delightful cup of hot chocolate will be just the right companion for you on a cold and rainy evening (or any other day if we’re being honest). And guess what? They use Starbucks Hot Chocolate! Sipping on this cosy concoction was like a hug in the winter. So it’s pretty safe to say that this is the perfect way to cocoa up your day!

The Green Juice — LKR 950 (5/5)

Now, we know that green juice usually has a pretty bad rap, but trust us when we tell you — this one’s the exception. It felt like a mini-detox in a glass—refreshing, healthy, and yep… pretty darn good too. Not to mention, it also acted as a pretty great palate cleanser. Packed with spinach, cucumber, apple, celery, ginger and lemon, it was quite a flavour party. Sip it, love it, and you can thank us later!

Got Beet? — LKR 950 (2/5)

Okay, so ‘Got Beet?’ had me a little beet-wildered. It wasn’t bad per se, but it wasn’t really my jam. Let’s just say it’s an acquired taste. The blend of beetroot, carrot, ginger, celery and red apple took us on a rollercoaster ride. Some sips were like, “hmm, not bad,” while others were like, “whoa, what just happened?”. So if you’re up for trying new things, be sure to give this a shot.
