Devilled Fish | Cooking with Aunty D

Devilled Fish is a mouth-watering sweet and spicy dish that makes up for a killer side dish or an appetiser on its own -or as we Lankans like to call it, ‘bites’. If you’re looking for a satisfying starter, Aunty D’s recipe is just what you’re looking for, to serve at your next party!

Ingredients:

Thalapath 450 g

Pepper 1 tsp

Salt 1 ¼ tsp

Vinegar ½ tsp

Lime Juice

Corn Flour 1/8 cup

Corn Flour 1 tsp

All-Purpose Flour 1/8 cup

Oil 1 tbsp

Ginger/Garlic 1 tbsp

Capsicum + Green Chilli

Big Onion 1 large

Soy Sauce 1 tbsp

Chilli Flakes 1 tbsp

Tomato Sauce 1 tbsp

Tomato 2 medium

Sugar 1 tsp

Method:

Wash, clean and cut the fish fillet into small cubes.

To a bowl, add the fish cubes, salt, pepper, vinegar and lime juice, mix to combine and leave it aside to marinate for 20 minutes.

Next, coat the marinated fish with corn flour and all-purpose flour and fry until golden.

Place a cooking pot over medium heat with oil, finely chopped ginger or garlic, thickly sliced capsicum, green chilli and onion, and give it a stir.

For the sauce, add soy sauce, chilli flakes, tomato sauce and corn flour into the pot and combine.

Finally, add the fried fish cubes, chopped tomato, salt and sugar and mix until everything is coated with the sauce and serve!
