First permit to import vehicles issued

The Minister of Labor and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara on Tuesday handed over the first permit for the special vehicle import license which is given to foreign workers when they send money to Sri Lanka legally through the banking system.

The first import license has been issued to the authorized representative of the foreign worker who imported the vehicle.

The minister said there that there has been a special demand for electric vehicle import licenses and many foreign workers are continuously making inquiries.

Any Sri Lankan who lives, works or holds dual citizenship in a foreign country meets the basic eligibility with the amount remitted between May 1st and December 31st with a value of twenty thousand dollars or more for electric cars and on May 1st The amount of three thousand dollars or more remitted from May 2023 onwards is also valid for the import of electric motorcycles.

The minister said that it is mandatory that remittances directed to Sri Lanka are directed to a legal banking system or an agent, and 50% of the money must be converted into rupees.
