A New Era in Packaging – A Technological Revolution

Sri Lanka’s largest and most advanced Polysack manufacturing facility – Ratna Polysack – opens in Polonnaruwa

Committed to uplifting Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector by enabling safer, higher-quality packaging, storage, and transport of agricultural produce, Ratna Polysack was founded decades ago as a visionary initiative by Mr. Mithrapala Lankeshwara, the Founder and Chairman of the Ratna Group of Companies.

Over the years, the company has grown into a creative and technologically capable local enterprise, rivalling global packaging technology. With innovation at its core, Ratna Polysack has continually enhanced the appearance, quality, and value of packaging in Sri Lanka.

Marking the dawn of a new era in agricultural packaging, Ratna Polysack recently unveiled its second and most advanced facility yet, in Polonnaruwa.

This newly opened facility is not only the largest of its kind in Sri Lanka, but also the most technologically advanced, featuring fully automated production lines and cutting-edge machinery. Ratna Polysack is certified under international quality standards, reinforcing its commitment to world-class packaging solutions.

The new factory spans over 200,000 square feet, making it a modern industrial complex designed to meet future demands. With its completion, more than 1,000 new direct job opportunities have been created, alongside over 2,500 indirect employment opportunities. This project is expected to significantly benefit the rural economy by enhancing the livelihoods of youth and empowering women in remote villages through inclusive employment.

According to the Ratna Group, this facility will positively impact thousands of families.

With a daily capacity of over 400,000 bags, including plain, printed, laminated, gravure-printed, and leno-type bags, this factory stands as the largest single-roof facility producing all such varieties in Sri Lanka.

Thousands of skilled personnel – including trained factory staff, technical engineers, design teams, lab technicians, and more – work around the clock to maintain seamless operations. Previously, certain specialized packaging formats were imported; now, thanks to this facility, they can be manufactured locally, reducing time, labour, and costs.

Moreover, producers now enjoy custom-designed, high-finish packaging that enhances product appeal. Free custom design services are also offered to support customer branding needs.

As an eco-friendly industrial zone, the new factory maintains zero waste discharge, with all materials fully recycled in-house. Its commitment to sustainability is further strengthened by the installation of a 2,000kv panel solar power system, positioning it as a model for future green-energy-powered manufacturing facilities.

With its expanded capacity, Ratna Polysack now commands a 60% share of the entire Sri Lankan polysack market.

This latest venture also commemorates the birthday of Mr. Mithrapala Lankeshwara, serving as one of the many meaningful projects under his leadership of the Ratna Group of Companies.
