Shiromal Cooray amongst Leading Women Entrepreneurs in Asia-Pacific

Shiromal Cooray, Chairman and Managing Director of Jetwing Travels (Pvt.) Ltd has garnered a spot on the EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women Asia – Pacific programme. This year-long executive leadership programme is designed for women with established, up and-running businesses who are ready to take the plunge and scale their operations, in order to become global market leaders. 

As the Chairman and Managing Director of one of the leading inbound/outbound travel management companies in Sri Lanka, she is also spearheading Jetwing Hotels (Pvt.) Ltd., a premier hospitality brand that owns and manages 30 hotels and 10 villas in Sri Lanka. Her tenure of over 30 years in the family business has seen Jetwing expand through some of  the most tumultuous times. 

Shiromal Cooray is one out of 14 other businesswomen from the programme, who strive to grasp the necessary resources and advice on how to grow their companies. She is also the only Sri Lankan on the list for the Class of 2021, representing the nation on a global scale. This accomplishment also deems recognition on the grounds that Shiromal is both a woman and has paved a highly successful corporate career.

Alongside being a trailblazer of the tourist industry like her father, Herbert Cooray, and her brother Hiran Cooray, she is also notable for being an avid associate member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Shiromal is also the newly elected Chairperson of the Sri Lanka Institute of Directors (SLID). The EY programme is one such platform that sheds light on her many achievements.

Later in the year, this cohort of 14 women will convene for a conference in Seoul, South Korea to take part in activities that will strengthen their cultural and commercial skills. They will also learn the nuances of running a business in their host country. In addition, there will be a series of in-country workshops and e-conferences that will run throughout the course of the year.

The EY Entrepreneurial Winning Women Asia-Pacific programme is one that guides many women like Shiromal to explore the potential of their business to the fullest.
